The Tinikling is a traditional dance from the Philippines which involves two people hitting parallel bamboo poles, using them to beat, tap, and slide on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles. The name is a reference to birds locally known as Tikling, which can be any of a number of Rail bird species for which the action of the dance resembles.
